Gardeners Answers Time: Guerilla Grafting & Top Grafting

'Gardeners Answers Time' is a monthly gathering of ecological food growers that meets at Bedford Fields Community Forest Garden. This month the focus will be on top grafting. This involves grafting on twigs of edible varieties on to medium or large trees above waist height. This can convert less productive trees into productive varieties of the kind of fruit that you want. It can be done anywhere on any tree that will a graft to take. Hawthorn and blackthorn are two typical examples that can have apples and plums grafted on themr respectively.

Learn how to top graft from Alan Thornton of the Urban Orchard Project. Refreshments provided and bring food to share!
