Leather is one of the most durable and versatile textiles in use and a little can go a long way and be a low impact by-product of mindful agriculture. In this workshop you will learn how to make covers, sheaths and pouches for your tools from an experienced leathersmith Ruth Pullan. Do you have a treasured knife, pair of secateurs, axe or pruning saw (to name but a few) that could be elegantly protected for you or for a friend? Come to the workshop, receive great tuition, a free hot lunch and of course a cover for your tool, custom made by you.
Other possibilities include a belt or a small exterior pouch, or covers for bigger tools but because of the large quantity of leather there will be an extra charge, usually about £5 but it depends on the size of the tools. Please read the instructions below to understand this fully.
Book a place - send an email with a picture
To book a place you need to send us a picture of your item proposed in the list above or something similar so Ruth can cut the appropriate size of leather for it. A small description of dimensions would be extra helpful. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to do this.
For big tools/belts/pouches/other suggestions - Tell us what you want and a picture of the item and we will get back to you with the extra cost for leather and whether it's possible to do it on the course. However, because of the length of the workshop, things like book covers and wallets won't be possible but other suggestions are welcome!
We need a minimum number of people to run the course so please help us out and come! If the course can not run, you will be notified a few days in advance.
Cost is 15-30 pounds depending on income. This is a spectrum from unemployed/concession to part-time to full-time employment. The fee is payable in cash on the day of the course.
Lunch is provided but with no dietary requirements in mind. Please get in touch if you have a dietary requirement.
